WICKEDNESS

David compared sin and the unfailing love of God in Psalm 36. David described sin as follows, "Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all. In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are. Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do good. They lie awake at night, hatching sinful plots. Their actions are never good. They make no attempt to turn from evil (Psalm 36:1-4)." Sin rules in the hearts of those who do not fear (respect or revere) God in their hearts. These are the people who mock and dishonor God in everything that they say and do. Because they are so corrupted by sin, they don't even realize how wicked they are. They promote anti-God and are proud of it, thinking that their ways are better than those who believe in God. Their actions are never good because the only thing that they want to live by is what they think and feel. Their sinful hearts rule their lives. They do not have God's moral compass to guide their decision-making; as a result, they will do whatever they desire and want.

Lucifer had the same situation in the beginning before he sinned or rebelled against God and became Satan. He was a beautiful angel, serving and worshipping God until he decided not to be under God's authority anymore because he wanted to be his own God. Isaiah described Lucifer's sin in Isaiah 14:12-15, "How you are fallen from Heaven, O shining star (Lucifer), son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. For you said to yourself, 'I will ascend to Heaven and set my throne above God's stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.' Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths." Because of Lucifer's sin, God judges him, and there will come a day when God will condemn him and his followers to hell forever.

There is no peace in sin because God created us for righteousness. Anyone who chooses to sin and disregard God will never be satisfied because they will always be looking for something better that will give them peace and satisfaction. Only God can give us peace and satisfaction because He is the one who created us. In the end, God will condemn all sinners the same way He will condemn Satan.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). How did Lucifer sin? How can sinners find peace and satisfaction? How can I protect my heart from having the same desire as the wicked?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, You said in Isaiah 48:22 that there is no peace for the wicked. Would you please guard my heart today from sinful attitude and behavior? Please help to think and do what is good in your sight. Do not let my heart rebel against you, for there is nothing good except your ways. Please forgive me for all the sins that I have committed. Thank you for forgiving me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
