Sometimes it is difficult to imagine that we have an unbroken relationship with the God who created the universe. He is holy without sin, yet He chose to be with us as sinners. He could have easily chosen to abandon or reject us when we were in sin, but our Lord Jesus chose to save us with His life. The reason we have an unbroken relationship with our Heavenly Father is that He initiated everything. He reached down to us by coming into our world through our Lord Jesus even without knowing Him. We were lost in our ways, yet He pursued us with His love. We were in spiritual darkness, yet He shone His light into us that we may no longer live in spiritual darkness. God has given us His Word so that we can know Him and His ways. Our Father Heaven sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us so that He can guide us into all the truth (John 16:13).
As we grow in our relationship with Him, we will learn that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with our God. It is not based on sets of rules that we need to follow in order to be accepted by God. But God guides us in His ways and helps us to walk in His ways. I remember before I have given my life to Jesus, I was living in fear. I thought that God was always ready to punish me every time I sin. He would cause bad things in my life, such as having a bad day or not getting what I wanted. I felt like God was a distant God, and the only way to please Him was to be good. So if I wanted God to bless me with something, I had to be good so that He could grant me what I wanted. I would go to church, I would pray more, or I would be a good person. I was relying on my good performance so that God would not punish me and could give me what I wanted.
With the help of the Holy Spirit, as I read the Bible, I started to understand that God was not quick to punish me, but He was quick to forgive me as soon as I confess my sin to Him, and He was changing my heart and helping me to do good that I might have a blessed life. I also learned that God wanted to give me everything that was good to me and that it was according to His plan and purpose in my life. We are spiritually blessed because we have an unbroken relationship with our God.
Ask yourself these questions: Do I believe that I have an unbroken relationship with my Heavenly Father? Do I still trust in my good works to be accepted by God? How did I enter into my relationship with my Heavenly Father?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you that I have an unbroken relationship with you. Nothing can break my relationship with you because it is not based on good works, but it is based on your love through faith in my Lord Jesus. Thank you for loving me so much. Please help me now to live in your love and continue to change my heart that I may live for you. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
