God has given us the Word of God or the Bible to help us know Him and His ways. The Word of God is different from any book in the world because it is the only book that is alive and active. The Word of God can speak to our hearts, reminding us of the promises and ways of God. Because of sin, humankind lost its way from God. People began to worship idols or other gods and practice ungodly customs and ways. For example, God used William Carey to stop human sacrifices in India in the 1800s. It was part of the Indian culture at that time to practice Suttee, the sacrificial burning of the widows at their husband's funerals. Because the Word of God clearly states that human sacrifices are sinful (Deuteronomy 18:10), William Carey fought hard against the practice of Suttee. It eventually stopped.

Since the Word of God is alive and active, it can speak to all cultures and customs. It can show us how we should live according to the ways of God. The Word of God never changes, no matter our time and culture. The message of the Word of God never changes. It is the same as yesterday, today, and the future. There are many false teachings going around today that say that the Word of God only relates to the past and does not relate to our customs and culture today. However, this teaching is not true. The Word of God is still alive and active, changing many lives today. It reveals and judges our thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. The Word of God reveals sin and judges our sinful attitude and lifestyle. It also shows us how to return to God when we wander away from God.

We need the Word of God to speak to our hearts and show us God's ways. We need to allow the Word of God to convict us of our sins and repent. Let us know God through the Word of God, for it is the only book God has given us to know Him and His ways.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you) Why is the Word of God important today? Am I allowing God to speak to me through His Word? What are the ways that I can know God's Word?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Father in Heaven, thank you for your Word that is alive and active. I pray that You will give me the hunger to read and study Your Word so I can know You and Your ways. Please do not let my heart be hardened by sin, but walk according to Your Word. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
