THE HEALING AT BETHSAIDA

When Jesus and the disciples went to Bethsaida, which is in the northern part of the sea of Galilee, they brought a blind man to Jesus. Jesus took the blind man's hand and guided him outside the village. Once outside the village, Jesus spat on the blind man's eyes and laid hands on him. Jesus then asked the blind man if he could see. The blind man replied that he could see men, but they looked like trees walking about. Jesus laid His hands on the blind man again; this time, the blind man's eyes were restored, and he began seeing everything clearly. Jesus then told the man not to enter the village. (Mark 8:22-26).

Why would Jesus lead the blind man outside the village to heal him? Jesus could have healed the blind man in the village, but he healed him outside the village. One of the reasons is the unbelief of the people in the village. Jesus said this to the people in Bethsaida, "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes" (Luke 10:13). The other interesting in this healing is that Jesus laid his hands twice on the man for his complete healing. He also spat on the man's eyes. Jesus could have healed the man immediately and at once, but perhaps Jesus wanted to show his disciples that He could heal people in many ways. One of the spiritual lessons that we can learn from this event is that Jesus is the only one who can heal us from our spiritual blindness. With all the influence of false teachers and the sinful ways of this world, the devil can easily deceive us. However, when we believe in Jesus and surrender our lives to Him, we can know the truth and be protected from the devil's lies.

As we put our complete trust in Jesus, we can understand God's truth through His Word. The people in Bethsaida did not believe in Jesus; as a result, they stayed in their spiritual blindness. The blind man was healed because He trusted in Jesus.

Ask yourself these questions: How can a person be healed from spiritual blindness? How can I be protected from Satan's lies? Why is it important to trust in Jesus?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for healing my spiritual blindness through faith in my Lord Jesus. I was spiritually blind, but now I can see. I pray that you will continue to protect me from Satan's lies. Please help me discern what is right and wrong in my decision-making so that I may always choose what honors your name. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
