Peace is the third fruit that is mentioned in the fruit of the Spirit. It means harmony in our personal relationships, especially in our relationship with God. Any person who does not have a relationship with God will never have peace. People have been looking for inner peace from money, material possessions, relationships, fame, drugs, or alcohol, but to no avail. The reason is that God is the source of peace. God created us to have a relationship with Him, and when our relationship with Him is broken, then we will never have peace.
When sin spread to all humankind, we lost our peace with God. We became His enemies, but by God's grace, He reconciled us with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ. In Romans 5:10, it says, "Even when we were God's enemies, he made peace with us, because his Son died for us. Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by the life of his Son." Our Lord Jesus paid the penalty of our sin by dying on the cross so that our relationship with God would be restored. Now that we have a relationship with God, we have direct access to our heavenly Father that no matter what we go through, we know that He will always be there for us, and that gives us the peace that the world cannot give us.
There was a captain of the boat who had been fishing in the ocean all his life. One day he took a group of people to go fishing in the middle of the sea. While they were there, a storm came without notice. The calm sea became very rough, that big waves start hitting the boat. The people began to panic, except the captain, because he knew what his boat could handle. He was at peace because he knew that they would go back to the land safely. Similarly, when we go through unexpected challenges or problems in our life, we worry or become afraid, but our God, who is the captain of our life, is not worried because He is always in control. Nothing surprises our God.
For us to have peace, we need to be reconciled with God. The only way for us to be reconciled with God is to surrender our lives to Him. If we do not have peace at this moment, we need to believe in Him genuinely, and then we need to trust in Him in our situation.
Ask yourself these questions: how can I have peace? Do I have peace at this moment? Do you believe that God can handle your situation? If yes, why worry and not have peace?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
