THE FENCE AND THE OUTER GATE OF THE TABERNACLE

The Tabernacle is 45 feet long, 15 feet wide, and 15 feet high (Exodus 26:15-26). The fence is approximately 150 feet by 75 feet and 7.5 feet high (Exodus 27:9-19). There is only one door in the Tabernacle, and it is called the Outer Gate (see the Tabernacle). The Outer Gate is facing east. According to Ezekiel 43:2, God's glory will be coming back from the east when Jesus comes to the earth in His second coming to reign and judge the world. The reason for the fence is to separate the holy place of God from the rest of the world. The only people who can enter the Tabernacle are the worshippers of the True Living God. The priests, the Levites, and the people who bring their sacrifices to God can enter the Tabernacle. The fence symbolizes the barriers between sin and the holiness of God. Since God is holy and He doesn't tolerate sin in His presence, we cannot enter the presence of God with our sin. As a result, we need a savior. Our good works, offerings, and sacrifices that we do for the Lord are not enough to allow us to be in the presence of God because everything that we do does not wash away our sins.

The reason there is only one gate in the Tabernacle is to show us that there is only one way to God. The Outer Gate represents our Lord Jesus. Jesus said in John 10:9, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture." It is only through believing in Jesus as our Lord and Savior that we can enter God's presence. Jesus continued to say, "I am the way, the truth, and the life no one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6)." Jesus is the only Savior in the Lord. He is the only way to our God the Father. Every person in this world, no matter what religion they have, must believe that Jesus is their only Savior and Lord in order for them to enter in the presence of God. We are blessed that we already professed that Jesus is our Lord and Savior; as a result, we can enter into the very presence of God. We have direct access to God no matter where we are and no matter what situations we are in. The fence of the Tabernacle no longer applies to us. We can boldly come into the presence of God.

Before we believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we were separated from the presence of God because of our sins. But now, we have access to God through our Lord Jesus.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the importance of the fence and the door of the Tabernacle? What separated me from the presence of God? How can a person enter into the presence of God?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, I was once on the other side of the fence, separated from you because of my sins. However, you provide a way for me to enter into your presence through my Lord Jesus. I praise you and honor your name, Lord Jesus, for being the gate that gives me access to my Heavenly Father's presence. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
