THE BREAD OF LIFE

God wants to reveal Himself to us because He wants us to get to know Him. He is not like the other gods that they are very mysterious that they cannot be known. God sent the Holy Spirit to us and gave us the Bible so that we can know Him. In the gospel of John, Jesus identifies Himself with seven metaphors that express His saving relationship toward the world. The first metaphor that he used to show His saving relationship toward the world is that He is the Bread of Life. Being the Bread of Life means that Jesus is the source of life. Just as the bread that we eat gives life to our body, Jesus gives life to our spirit and soul. Anyone who will eat the food of this world will hunger again, but anyone who genuinely believes in Him will be forgiven and receive eternal life.

Many people followed Jesus because He could provide them bread. However, Jesus did not want them to follow Him because He could provide them food, but to believe in Him as their Lord and Savior. Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. But don't be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval." If we give our lives to Jesus completely, He will give us eternal life.

The food and the material things of this world will never satisfy us. We will always be looking for bigger and better things in this world, like the latest trends in clothing, phones, shoes, etc., but they can never satisfy our hearts' longing. Jesus is the only one who can satisfy our souls' desires. Let us continue to be the people who seek and follow God's ways. We need to prove to the world that we have the Bread of Life in our life in the way we live our lives so that they would believe in Jesus and receive the Bread of Life. We need to be kind, helpful, patient, and forgiving to others, such as our family and friends.

Ask yourself these questions: How do I receive the Bread of Life in my life? How should I live my life if I have the Bread of Life?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you for giving me the Bread of Life through your Son, Jesus Christ. I pray that you will continue to change my life so that I can prove to my family and friends that I have the Bread of Life. I pray for my family and friends who do not have the Bread of Life that they will believe and give their lives to Jesus. Please help me now with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
