STRUGGLES IN DOING GOOD

Have you ever been in a situation that you want to do good but ended up doing bad things? We do not want to give in to sin but ended up sinning. The apostle Paul experienced the same thing. He said, "For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." (Romans 7:18-19). It seems we are trapped in our desire to sin. We know that sin is bad for us because the only thing that sin does is to destroy what is good in us. God has a bright future in our life, but if we choose to keep on sinning, then we will never be able to live according to His will.

It is very frustrating when we want to do good, but we ended up messing up. Even apostle Paul expressed His frustration emotionally, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? The apostle Paul was looking for someone who could rescue him from this predicament. And he found his answer in Jesus. He said, "Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:25). The answer to our struggle in sin is our Lord Jesus Christ. The very God that we sin against is the very God that can help us to overcome our sin in our lives.

So if Jesus is the answer to our struggle in sin, what should we do then? We need to realize that when we do bad things, the first thing that we need to do is to ask for forgiveness from God. We do not run or hide away from God when we sin, but we go to Him for forgiveness. Secondly, we need to constantly ask God to give us the strength to do what is good. Every time we wake up in the morning, we need to ask God to give us the strength to do good. When we are tempted to do bad things, we need to ask God for strength to overcome the temptation.

Ask yourself these questions: What should I do when I sin against God? What should I do every time I wake up in the morning to overcome sin in my life?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for your grace and mercy that I can always go to you every time I do bad things and ask for forgiveness. Please help me to do good today for your glory and honor. Please help me now with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
