Whether we are poor or rich, our security is in our Heavenly Father. No matter what happens in the economy of this world, He promised us that He would take care of us. If we lack material possessions or are living at the poverty level, we need to be encouraged that we have a heavenly mansion that God is preparing for us. It is the place that we will be forever after our life is over on this earth. If we are rich and God has blessed us with material possessions in this world, let us not rely on our wealth, for the Bible says that our wealth is like a little flower in the field. We have them today, and they are gone tomorrow. James 1:11 says, "The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements."
Proverbs 22:2 says this, "Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all." By God's sovereign power, He made some rich, and others He made poor. However, He is the sustainer of them all. The most important thing in this life is not how much we have in this world but who we put our faith in because that will determine where we are going to spend our eternal life. Our life in this world is temporary; we are here today and gone tomorrow. Our material possessions cannot save us in the end.
God is encouraging us today to be content in Him. If we lack something, let us ask God for provision with faith. Let us not be discouraged or even depressed if we lack possessions. Our possessions are not our identity but our relationship with God, and we have a better possession that awaits us in Heaven. In the same manner, if we are rich, let us boast in our relationship with God, not on our wealth, for everything we have comes from Him. If we want to boast, let us boast about what God has done in our life.
Ask yourself these questions: Who is the maker of both rich and poor? Who is the provider of my life? As a believer, how should I live my life in this world?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, I acknowledge that you are my provider. Thank you that you promised that you will always provide everything that I need. Please help me to trust you and give you all the glory. Please help me not boast in my possessions but in what you have done in my life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
