RESTORING OUR MINDS

As our Heavenly Father restoring His image in us, He is renewing our minds. It is in our minds that we analyze and interpret everything around us. Our brains store all the experiences and information that we have accumulated since we are babies, whether good or bad. And our brains use our bad experiences or past pains to help us avoid them in the future. For example, if we touch a hot stove when we are kids, our brain will store that painful experience and will warn us in the future that do not touch a hot stove. Similarly, if we grow up in a home where we are abused and neglected, we will grow up insecure, but if we grow up in a loving family, we will grow up with confidence. Our brains shape our behaviors; thus, it affects our hearts. So if we grow up in a family or society that does not believe in God, more than likely, we will become atheists.

God is renewing our minds day by day so that we can know and discover our true selves as human beings created in His own image. And renewing our minds is a process because God has to heal all the painful experiences that we have had in the past so that He can free us from our unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, and hate. Renewing our minds is to forgive those who have hurt us in the past whatever they have done to us. Renewing our minds is completely trusting God with our lives rather than trusting our resources, wisdom, and strength. So how does God renew our minds? He does it by teaching us His Word (our Bible). Our Bible is the source of our spiritual nourishment. We learn to trust, obey, and worship God through His Word. The Holy Spirit is helping us to understand God's Word and applying it to our lives.

As Christians, we need to do what Colossians 3:2 says, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." We need to engage our minds with the Word of God every day. We can use our daily devotions to start engaging with God through His Word and prayer. As we fill our minds with the ways of God, our minds will slowly be renewed, and our lives will start to change to live according to God's image.

Ask yourself these questions: Why does God in the process of renewing my mind? Why is it so important? How does God renew my mind?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you that you are in the process of renewing my mind. Thank you that you are healing me from my past wounds. Please help me forgive and love those who have hurt me in the past that I may live according to your image. Please help me to trust you with all my life completely and love you with all of my heart, mind, soul, and strength. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
