One of our limitations as human beings is that we are forgetful. We can easily be blinded by our current situation and forget what God has done for us in the past. Our doubt in God's goodness normally comes from forgetting all the great things that God has done in our lives. The Psalmist in Psalm 76:7-10 remembered God's greatness, "It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained." When God brought judgment on this earth during the time of Noah, He caused rain and opened the depths of the ocean to shoot up water from underground and flood the entire earth. Only Noah and his family survived during the flood. When God saw the wickedness of the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, He brought fire and brimstone from the sky to destroy the cities. Only Lot and his children survived the catastrophic event. These stories are just testimonies that show God's greatness over wickedness and rescue those who believe and follow Him.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He has done in the past, He can do it again today and tomorrow. When we are overwhelmed with our circumstances, especially in the wickedness of this world, let us remember that God can rescue us. Let us not forget what God has done for us in the past. When we go through hardship, let us think about the past successes that God brought into our lives. God is faithful to take care of us. We may not see His work in our lives at this moment but be assured that God is working behind the scenes on our behalf. It should encourage us that we have a God who is so powerful that He can do anything. He can bring judgment to the wicked and blessings to those who walk with Him.
If our circumstances are discouraging us at this moment, let us pause and consider God's goodness and greatness. Let us remember and meditate on what God has done for us in the past, for God is always faithful to take care of us. What He has done for us in the past, He can certainly do it again in our current circumstances.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important for me to remember and meditate on what God has done for me in the past? What are the ways God showed His goodness in my life in the past? What should be
my attitude in my circumstances knowing that God is always faithful to take care of me?
Write down all the worries you face today and lift them to God.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, there is nothing impossible for you. You are always faithful because you are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Thank you that you are a faithful God. Please help me not to forget all the good things that you have done in my life so that I am always reminded that you are a mighty and faithful God. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
