RELYING ON GOD

When Moses and 2 million people of Israel were stranded in front of the Red Sea, they were on the verge of being annihilated by the Egyptian armies that were pursuing them. They did not have any place to turn to because their position was in the middle of two big mountains. The only escape route they had was swimming across the Red Sea, which was impossible for 2 million people to do. It seems that God led them to failure. God was supposed to lead His people to safety and comfort, but He led them in front of the Red Sea and nowhere to run. The people grumbled at Moses and doubted God because they were in an impossible situation—death and life situation.

The reason God led them to the shore of the Red Sea was to show His great power to the people of Israel and to teach them to rely on Him completely. God wanted them to learn that it was not through their power and strength that they would survive in the desert, but through His power alone. God was taking away their self-reliant attitude. In the same manner, God wants us to rely on Him completely. He allows us to go through impossible situations because He wants us to experience His power in us and to learn to rely on Him completely. We tend to want to control things to avoid difficult situations or alleviate pain in our lives. But sooner or later, we will face something that is beyond of what we can handle.

God then commanded Moses to lift up his rod and stretched his arm over the Red Sea to divide the water so that they could walk through it. As Moses obeyed God, the Red Sea split into two, and the people started crossing. And the Angel of God was behind them so that the Egyptian armies could not attack the people while crossing. When we face difficult problems and situations, we need to remind ourselves that Jesus lives in us, and He wants us to rely on him completely. It is our opportunity to trust God and experience His power in us when we go through challenges in our lives. Let us not doubt the power of God that is at work in us, but to live in confidence in Jesus, knowing that He lives in us.

Ask yourself these questions: What does God want me to do when I face difficult situations in my life? What is God teaching me when I face impossible problems in my life?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
