OVERCOMING UNBELIEF OR DOUBT

There was a man who had a son possessed by the evil spirit since his childhood. The evil spirit made the boy mute and caused him to have a seizure. It also threw him into the fire and into the water to destroy him. So the father was in a desperate situation to help his son. So he took his son to Jesus' disciples since Jesus had gone out to another place, but they could not cast out the evil spirit from the boy. When Jesus came back to his disciples, he found out what was happening, and Jesus told them to bring the boy to Him. The father explained to Jesus what the evil spirit had been doing to his son and begged Jesus to help them. The father said, "But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" Jesus replied, "if You can? All things are possible to him who believes." Immediately, the boy's father said, "I do believe; help my unbelief." Jesus then rebuked the evil spirit out of the boy, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again." The evil spirit threw the boy into terrible convulsion before it came out that some people thought that the boy was dead, but Jesus took the boy by the hand and raised him up. (Mark 9:14-27).

The father did not have a strong faith in Jesus in the beginning. He wasn't sure if Jesus could help them, and that is the reason he said, "if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" Although he was doubting, he asked Jesus to help his doubt. There are times in our spiritual walk with our Lord Jesus that we doubt. We are not sure if Jesus can help our situations or provide what we need. However, when we doubt, the best thing to do is ask our Lord Jesus to help us with our doubt. Most of the time, our doubts come from the lies of Satan in our minds. Satan can put lies into our minds, such as God doesn't care about us, He is too busy, we are not worthy, He is not strong enough, He will not listen, and the list of lies can go on. The only way to overcome the lies of Satan in our minds is to know our God.

The more we know God, the more we overcome the lies of Satan in our minds, and the more we overcome the lies of Satan in our minds, the more we overcome our doubts. It is all about knowing our God personally and asking him to help us to believe what we know about Him through His Word, the Bible.

Ask yourself these questions: What should I do when I am doubting? What is the source of my doubt? How should I overcome the lies of Satan in my mind?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, please forgive me for doubting and believing the lies of Satan in my mind. Please help my unbelief or doubt. I believe that you care about me and love me. Please help me to know you more personally through your Word that I may overcome the lies of Satan. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
