Sin or wickedness is against the holiness of God. It is because of wickedness that we spiritually died and brought death and suffering in this world. The only way for God to save us from our wickedness is through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Every time we sin, we grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) and hurt others that we love.
When Umberto continued to hang out with his bad friends, he ended up in jail for drug possession. While he was sitting in his cell, he started thinking about his parents. He remembered how much his parents loved him. His father worked very hard on the farm just to provide for them. His mother kept on praying for him and tearfully encouraging him to do the right thing. Although he had fun and excitement with his friends, he realized that he was empty inside. When his friends were gone, and the effect of drugs waned down, he felt alone and scared. Umberto knew that he had to change for a better life. He understood how much he was hurting his parents and sinning against God. He then prayed a simple prayer in his cell to ask God for forgiveness and help to change. His parents then were eventually able to bail him out of jail after his father borrowed enough money.
After Umberto got out of jail, he decided not to hang out with his friends anymore and pursue in finishing high school. Although it was difficult for him to change because of peer-pressure from his old friends, he held on to God and thought about his parents. Umberto started going to a youth Bible study and met new friends that followed and loved the Lord. He also started going to church with his parents, which made his parents very happy. Eventually, Umberto graduated from high school and made it in the top 10 list of his school. He ended up going to college, pursuing education.
