NEW YEAR: THE WISDOM OF GOD

In this New Year, we need God's wisdom to guide and help us face new life challenges. There are things in life that are beyond our understanding because of our limited minds. We have experienced situations that our expectations did not meet our expectations. For example, when I went to Colorado to attend a ministry retreat a few years ago, the weather forecast showed that it would be in the 70s; however, before our plane arrived at my airport destination, the weather plummeted to the 30s and began to snow heavily. Everybody was caught by surprise. Since I was not expecting 30 degrees weather and snow, I only brought a light jacket. We had some in our group who were wise enough to bring jackets for emergencies. So I was able to borrow a jacket from someone.

I learned that I need God's wisdom to guide me through this life to make it. I admit that my understanding is limited because I cannot 100 percent predict what tomorrow holds. I can make plans, but there is no guarantee that my plan is good enough. Proverbs 14:12 says, "There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death." We are like a ship sailing through a vast ocean that needs a navigational system to guide us through the right course. And our perfect navigational system is not the ways or wisdom of this world, but our perfect navigational system is the wisdom of our God. God knows the way because He is the way. God knows the truth because He is the truth. God knows life because He is the life (John 14:6).

We can have God's wisdom when we honor and surrender our life to Him. Proverbs 9:10 says, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." The word fear in this verse means reverence. To revere God means to respect, honor, and worship God in our daily life. To fear God means to trust and walk with Him daily. When we apply His Word in our lives, we are honoring Him; thus, His wisdom begins to work in and through us. Let the wisdom of God guide us through this New Year by revering our God so that we may walk on the right path.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). Why is it that I need God's wisdom? What should I do to be guided by God's wisdom? Do I trust God's wisdom?

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, I need your wisdom to guide me through this life. Please help me not to rely on my understanding but to trust in your wisdom. Do not let the ways and wisdom of this world influence my thoughts so that I may walk in your wisdom. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
