JESUS CALMS THE STORM

After Jesus had ministered all day, He told his disciples to get on the boat and go to the other side of the lake, called the Sea of Galilee (the Sea of Galilee is about 8 miles across). Jesus loved to get on the boat with His disciples because it was only where He could rest without the people crowding around Him. When Jesus got in the boat with His disciples in the evening, Jesus was very tired, so He fell asleep at the back of the boat. Suddenly, a storm came, and the fierce wind began to create big waves that water started to get into the boat. The disciples started to become frantic because the boat started to fill up with water, so they woke up Jesus by saying, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" Jesus got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm again. He then said to the disciples, "Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?" The disciples feared Jesus because they saw the wind and the waves obeyed Jesus' command (Mark 4:35-41).

The storm of life can come into our lives without warning, making us fearful, especially when we do not have answers to our situations. When the disciples knew that they did not have an answer to their situation, the only thing that they could do was to call on Jesus. It was interesting to see Jesus was still sleeping in the storm. It tells us that Jesus never panics in our storms because He is bigger than the storms in our lives. In an instant, He can calm the storms in us. Jesus wants us to have faith in Him in our storms. Worrying and panicking are not the way to handle our storms in life. It is having faith in Jesus that would make a difference.

So whatever storm of life we face today, let us pray and put our faith in Jesus. Let us rest in Him, knowing He is bigger than our situations. We may feel that we are sinking, but Jesus can rescue us. We only need to pray and trust in Him with all of our hearts, and He will see us through the storm.

Ask yourself these questions: Do I trust Jesus in my storm of life? Do I believe that God cares about me? Do I believe that Jesus is bigger than my situation?

Write down all the worries you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me today that you are bigger than the storm of my life. Please help me trust you, especially when I feel helpless or hopeless in my situation. Teach me to rest in you and guide me through my situation and provide everything I need. Please give me wisdom so that I may make the right decision and a pure heart that I may make a godly decision. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
