TURNING TO GOD IN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION

The background of Psalm 54 concerns David's runaway from King Saul. David ended up hiding in Horesh. The Ziphites, who lived in that region, informed Saul that David was hiding in their region, and so Saul and his armies went to capture David. When David found out that Saul knew where he was because of the Ziphites, he fled the area and composed Psalm 54. He prayed, "Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me—people without regard for God (Psalm 54:1-3)." David had only 600 men compared to Saul's armies. David was outnumbered, and the only one who could save him was God, so he prayed to God. We have been in similar situations when the situation that we are facing is more than we can handle. We are overwhelmed and we do not have the answer to the problem that we are facing. The situation is beyond our understanding or resources. What should we do when we are in an impossible situation? We need to pray and put our faith in God, just like what David did.

David remembered his relationship with God. He said, "Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me (Psalm 54:4)." When David cried out to God for help, God protected him from being captured by Saul. This is the situation when David was very closed to being captured by Saul, but God intervened to protect David. No matter what is going on in our lives today, we always have hope, no matter how bleak our situation is. God can turn around our situation in an instant. We can trust God in our problems, no matter how small and big they are. All we have to do is to pray and trust in Him completely. He promised that He will never leave nor forsake us as His children. So, when we face difficult problems, let us look up to God and praise and worship Him instead of worrying about our problems.

The best way to handle our impossible problems is to pray, praise God for His goodness, and worship Him. Draw near to God in His presence through prayer and His Word. Let God speak to our hearts and encourage us in the midst of our difficult problems, and God will give us peace as He works through our problems.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What should I do when I face difficult problems? Why is it important to pray, praise, and worship God in the midst of my problems? Who is the only one who can help me when I go through an impossible situation?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for being my help in times of need. You are always there for me, for you never leave nor forsake me. I humbly come before you today to acknowledge that you are my God, who gives me hope. Please help me with my difficult situation today. Please give me wisdom on what to do and provide everything that I need. Please heal my physical body and help me to praise and worship you as you deliver and heal me. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
