Throughout the gospel—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Jesus is referred to as LORD. The meaning of the word "LORD" means supreme in authority. Everything in the heavens and on the earth is under His absolute power and control. Jesus performed many miracles in the gospels so that we could believe in Him that He is LORD. He turned water into wine. He healed the sick, the lame, the deaf. He cast out demons. He walked on water. He calmed the storm in the sea of Galilee. He multiplied the fish and the bread. He raised people from the dead. He died on the cross to die for our sin, and He rose from the dead to conquer death and give us new life in Him.
The time will come when every knee will bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD (Philippians 2:10-11). Regardless of how people see Jesus, it does not change the fact that He is LORD over everything. So how does this affect our lives? As believers, knowing and believing that Jesus is LORD should give us confidence and hope. We have our LORD Jesus that is over every circumstance in our lives. He has power over our needs. He has power over our sickness. He has control over our salvation. He has authority over our future. We have to look at every difficult problem that we have through our faith in our LORD Jesus because Jesus has control and power over it.
Since Jesus is our LORD, we must also submit to His authority. As Jesus helps and protects us with His authority, we need to yield to His authority in our lives. It is our responsibility to trust in Him and live our lives for Him. As we surrender our lives in Jesus' authority, God our Father then bless our lives.
Ask yourself these questions: Who is Jesus to me? Do I believe that Jesus is LORD? If I believe that Jesus is LORD, how should I deal with and respond to my problems?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
LORD Jesus, thank you for helping me understand this morning that you are the LORD of my life. Please help me to believe in your authority over everything and submit to your authority in my life. Thank you for saving me from my sin and giving me a new life in you. In your name, I pray. Amen.
