I HAVE BEEN BROUGHT CLOSER TO GOD

God has given us His Law to give us direction on living and relating with Him. It gives order and stability to our life. The Law also teaches us the character and nature of God. The Law of God is found in the first five books of the Bible—Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The Law of God is like the law of the land. It gives us civility. Can you imagine if there is no law in the land? It would be chaotic. The Law of God is the standard by which we live in order for us to honor and worship God. Leviticus 18:5 says, "Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD." Although the Law of God is good for us, we can never keep them. Because of our fallen nature and the temptations we face, it is impossible to follow all of them. James 2:10 says, "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it." As a result, the Law of God became a barrier between God and us.

We were separated because of the consequences of not following the entire Law of God. As a result, Jesus came to fulfill the Law for us (Matthew 5:17) and pay the penalty of not obeying the Law (Romans 5:8) to bring us closer to our Heavenly Father. Jesus obeyed the Law for us. The moment we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we begin to live in His life. We do not need to follow the Law of God to get closer or be accepted by God. He already accepted us and brought us closer to Him. Our Lord Jesus did it all for us because He loves us. Ephesians 2:13 says, "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ."

So let us be encouraged this morning that Jesus has brought us closer to God. We are no longer separated from God; we have direct access to Him. Regardless of what is going on in our lives today, we need to remember that we have been brought closer to God by our Lord Jesus Christ, so let us not walk in fear, but in confidence in Him.

Ask yourself these questions: Do I believe that Jesus has brought me closer to God? What did Jesus do to bring me closer to God? Now that I am close to God, How should I live my life today?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, I am so blessed to know that I have been brought closer to you through my Lord Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for what you have done in my life. Thank you for sacrificially loving me despite my sin and failures. Please, Father in Heaven, help me live my life with confidence and joy today because I have been brought closer to you. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
