There was a royal official whose son was very sick to the point of death. Although He was a wealthy and influential man, he could not save his son from his sickness. He probably tried all the options that he had but to no avail. Since he heard that Jesus could perform miracles, like turning the water into wine, he thought that Jesus might heal his son. This was the last option that he had because asking Jesus to heal his son might judge him as a crazy person because many people in his region did not believe in Jesus. Although many people were following Jesus at this time, many followed Him only because they want to see miracles performed. They did not believe in Him as the Messiah that God had sent to save us from our sin.
When the royal official heard that Jesus was in Cana, which was about sixteen miles away from his house in Capernaum, he went there to invite Jesus to come to his house and heal his son. The people in Cana might have judged him as a crazy person for asking Jesus to heal his son, but out of his desperation, he did not care about what people might think of him. All he wanted was his son to be healed. When Jesus heard his request, Jesus said to him, "Go your way, your son lives." The royal family believed the words that Jesus spoke to him and went back to his house. While he was coming down to his house, his servant greeted him and told him that his son was healed. He then asked his servant the time that his boy was healed, and the servant told him the exact time when Jesus said to him that his son would live. This was the second miracle that Jesus performed in the region.
Jesus showed to us through this miracle story that He could heal over the distance. No matter how far we are, God can reach down to us. Although sometimes we feel that God is far away from our situations, God is never far away. We have to pray to Him because He is always a prayer away from us. If we humble ourselves to God and follow His words in our lives, God will heal our hearts and bless our lives. The royal official’s son was healed because his father believed in the words that Jesus spoke to him.
Ask yourself these questions: Since Jesus is a God over the distance, do I believe that Jesus can hear my prayers no matter where I am? Why is it so important to believe and follow God's word in my life?

Father in heaven, thank you for this miracle story that shows that my Lord Jesus is a God over distance. Thank you for teaching me today that you are a God who is always near, and I am just a prayer away from you.
