Suffering is inevitable while we are on this earth. However, we should not be afraid or worried because we have a God to pray to for help. David prayed in Psalm 28:1-2, "I pray to you, O Lord, my Rock. Do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you are silent, I might as well give up and die. Listen to my prayer for mercy as I cry out to you for help, as I lift my hands toward your holy sanctuary." David's hope was always in the Lord, for God was his Rock. Rock represents a strong foundation, meaning that David could lean on God no matter his situation. God sustained him to stand and provided everything he needed in times of trouble. David acknowledged that he didn't have hope if God would not intervene in his life. Like David, we cannot do anything apart from God's help and provisions. We need God's help for us to have hope for the future. Only God can calm our storms of life. When we face uncertainty, we can pray to God because He is our Rock, our strong foundation.
David continued to praise God at the end of Psalm 28. He said, "Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving (Psalm 28:6-7)." David was overjoyed when God heard his prayer. God gave him strength and protection from his enemies. David defeated his enemies because of God’s help. Similarly, we can overcome our difficult situation with God's help. Trusting God means to release our control over our situation and let God handle our situation. Too often, we try to fix something that we can never fix ourselves, and only God can fix it. We need to learn to trust the Lord through our prayers.
God gave us the privilege to pray to Him in times of trouble. We do not need to carry our burdens. God wants us to give him our burdens and completely trust Him. God is our strong foundation that can hold us forever.
Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). What does it mean that God is my Rock? How should I live believing that God is my Rock? What should I do when my situation is too heavy for me to carry?
Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for being my Rock, my strong foundation in my time of need. Thank you that I can always pray to you, and always hears my prayer and answers them according to your care and love. Please help me to go through my day today. May you give me the strength, provision, and peace today. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
