GOD IS OUR HELP IN TIMES OF NEED

Before David became the king of Israel, he went through difficult situations in his life. The most difficult time of his life was when the Amalekites raided and destroyed his village while he and his men were gone to another Philistines' town. When David and his men came back to their village, their families and their livestock were gone. The Amalekites took their families as slaves and took all their resources. David's men started blaming him and thinking about stoning him. Everybody was in anguish, but David decided to pray and strengthened himself in the Lord in the middle of this chaos (1 Samuel 30:6).

It would be easy for David to blame or question God for not protecting their families while they were gone. He could have the bitterness or resentment against God for allowing the Amalekites to destroy their village. There are people today that blame God for every bad thing that happens to them. They quickly question the love and faithfulness of God in their lives when they go through sudden challenges in life. But David did not blame or had resentment against God when he lost his family, but he put His faith in God, knowing that God was the only one who could help him in his situation. The truth of the matter is that everybody goes through loss and suffering whether they believe in God or not. Suffering is part of our life because of sin. Sin is the cause of suffering, and this is the reason Jesus came to save us from our sin.

After David prayed and asked God for direction, God strengthened and directed him where the Amalekites were. He and his men were able to rescue their families and defeated the Amalekites. We need to be like David. We need to trust the Lord in the midst of our problems and never lose hope. Our God is the only one who can help us in times of our needs. He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is always for us and not against us (Romans 8:31).

Ask yourself these questions: What should I do when I go through problems? What does God promise us when we go through our problems?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you that you will never leave me nor forsake. You are for me and not against me. Thank you that I can always trust in you. And you are there to help me in my situation. May you be with me now as I go through the day and help me to continue to trust in you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
