GOD CARRIES US THROUGH DIFFICULT PROBLEMS

The nation of Israel was on the verge of collapse during the time of the prophet Isaiah. The Northern Kingdom of Israel was already conquered by the Assyrian Empire, and the Assyrians were poised to conquer the Southern Kingdom of Israel (Isaiah 36-37). The Southern Kingdom had fewer armies than the Assyrians. The only thing stopping the Assyrian Empire from sacking the Southern Kingdom was the wall surrounding the city. The King of the Southern Kingdom didn't have any ally that was strong enough to help him; as a result, he was all alone against all odds. However, God was with the Southern Kingdom of Israel. The Southern Kingdom may have been small in comparison to the Assyrian Empire, but God reigns supreme over every empire in the world. Isaiah 50:7 says, "Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame." The only hope that the Southern Kingdom had was the Lord God Almighty. Eventually, God intervened in the Southern Kingdom of Israel's predicament. God miraculously destroyed the Assyrian armies with His angel. One of His angels killed 185,000 Assyrian armies in one night (Isaiah 37:36-38).

Facing difficult situations that are beyond our strength and understanding is not easy to cope with. We can easily become fearful, which leads us to panic and restlessness. However, as children of the Most High God, we can never be without hope. When our strength is gone, and we cannot carry the burden that we have, God carries us through our difficult situations. When we are sick and in need of surgery, God carries us through it. When we have problems at work, God carries us through it. When we have family problems, God carries us through it. There is no storm of life that God cannot tame. There is no problem that He cannot solve. There is a reason why God is our only hope. He is above and beyond any problems that we face because He is the sovereign God.

Let us always remember that when we feel defeated, God begins to work miraculously and powerfully in our lives. We can always overcome any obstacles in our lives because God is with us and for us.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) As a child of God, what happens when I feel overwhelmed or defeated? Do I believe that God helps me to overcome my difficult problems? If I do, what should be my attitude?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me today that you are my everlasting hope. You will never leave or forsake me. Please continue to give me wisdom, strength, and peace in dealing with my difficult situations. I believe that you are taking care of me, and you have all the answers to all my problems. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
