FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: KINDNESS
Kindness is the fifth fruit that is mentioned in the fruit of the Spirit. It means showing goodness towards others or helping others with their needs. God showed His kindness to us when we were still under the bondage of sin so that He could lead us to repentance. In Romans 2:4, it says, "Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?" When we were helpless in our sins, our Lord Jesus Christ came into our lives and saved us. We didn't know the truth, but God led us to His truth. We didn't have any hope, but God reached down to us and gave us hope of eternal life.
Before the 911 terrorist attacked happened in New York, there was a terrorist from Lebanon that came to the United States to recruit other Muslims to become Jihadists and cause terror in this country. His target was to recruit young Muslim college students in the universities. One day, he got into a serious car accident. While he was in the hospital, he lied to the doctor that he was alone in this country and was here for business. So the doctor who is a Christian showed kindness to him. Although the hospital was releasing him, he still needed help to recover completely. To his surprised, the doctor offered help to him by asking him if he was interested in staying at his house since his wife was a nurse. He could stay with them while he was recovering. The terrorist man accepted the offer, and he stayed with the doctor and his family. While he was staying with them, the doctor and his friends prayed for him every night for his recovery. They also paid for all his medical bills, which was a lot. As time went by, he became a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ because of the doctor's kindness. When the 911 terrorist attacked happened, he was able to help the law enforcement to fight against terrorism in America. (The blood of Lambs by Kamal Saleem, 2009).
As the Lord showed His kindness to us by giving his life for us, we also need to show kindness to others. When we show kindness to others, even to those we do not know, God can use our lives to bring others to the Lord, just like what happened to the doctor. Our kindness towards others is a sign in our lives that we are God's children.
Ask yourself these questions: What is kindness? Do I show kindness to others? How did God show His kindness to me? How should I respond to His kindness?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Father in Heaven, thank you for your kindness. I am saved today because of your kindness. Please help me to be kind to others just as you are kind. Change my heart from being self-centered. Please help me to be helpful. Also, please help me with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
