FIXING OUR EYES ON GOD

While Joseph was in jail, the God of heaven and earth was with him. Even though Joseph was in jail, he never lost hope because He believed in God. He continued to live for God despite his situation. As a result, God gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer. The chief jailer then put him in charge of all the prisoners. With this privilege, Joseph could help and meet all the prisoners in jail, including the king's baker and the cupbearer who offended the king and were put in jail. As the baker and cupbearer were waiting for their sentencing, both of them had a dream on the same night. The following day, Joseph saw them very depressed and asked them the reason they were depressed. They told Joseph that they had a dream, but they couldn't know the meaning of it.

So God used Joseph to interpret their dreams. Joseph told the cupbearer that the king would free him in three days and restore his position as a cupbearer. However, he told the baker that in three days, the king would execute him. Joseph's interpretation of their dreams happened exactly what he told them. Before the cupbearer was freed, Joseph asked him if he could tell his situation to the king. Perhaps the king would free him from jail for wrongfully being accused. However, the cupbearer did not remember Joseph but forgot about him. (Genesis 39:19-40:23).

Joseph fixed his eyes on God while he was in jail. As a result, he was able to experience God's power in and through his life by interpreting the baker's and the cupbearer's dreams. When we go through difficult problems and challenges in our lives, we need to fix our eyes on God. And not let our problems and challenges block our eyes from seeing God's mighty hands working in our lives. We need to see our problems and difficulties through the lens of our faith in God because when we see our problems and difficulties through our God, we will not lose hope, but we will be filled with anticipation that God will work everything out according to His purpose and plan. We will never lose hope because our God is greater than our problems, and in due time, God will work everything out.

Ask yourself these questions: What should I do when I am facing difficulties and challenges in life? What can I experience when I fix my eyes on Jesus in my problems and challenges? What does it mean to fix my eyes on God?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me this morning to continue to fix my eyes on you instead of on my problems. I believe that you are bigger than the problems and difficulties that I am facing today. Please help me to rely on you in everything that I do. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
