FEEDING OF THE 5,000

After Jesus confronted the religious leaders with their hypocrisy and told them that He was the Son of God, He went across the sea of Galilee and went up to a mountain with His disciples. A five-thousand people followed them to the mountain because of the miraculous healing that Jesus did to the sick. Now, it was getting late at this time, and the people were hungry. Jesus asked Philip, one of the disciples, "Where shall we buy bread that these may eat." Philip replied, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them that everyone of them have a little." Two hundred is equivalent to 8 months of salary or at least $10,000 in today's minimum wages. One of the other disciples, Andrew, mentioned a boy who had five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus then took the boy's five loaves of bread and two fish and miraculously multiplied them to feed everyone. After they all ate, they had twelve baskets of bread leftover. The people were amazed at what Jesus did, and they believed that He was a prophet from God, in which this is not exactly what He wanted people to believe in Him. He wanted them to believe that He was the Savior of the world, the Son of God.

The feeding of the five-thousand people was the fourth miracle that was mentioned in the gospel of John. Jesus wanted to show the people that He was the ultimate provider and the Savior of the world. There are times that we are in need, and not knowing if we have enough money to buy food, pay rent, pay the bills, or purchase something that we need. And there are times that we need physical and emotional healing or guidance and wisdom in life. In any case, we have been in situations that we are in need. The blessing to know that God can miraculously provide for our needs brings comfort to us. It assures us that God can give us our needs according to His riches and power. Nothing our God can provide as long as they are according to His perfect plan and purpose in our lives. God is very creative in providing for our needs. There are times God will provide for us in a way that we do not expect. So we need to keep on trusting in Him.

Ask yourself these questions: Is there anything that worries me today that I want God to provide for me? What does God want me to do in my current needs? Why is it important for me to trust in God in my present needs?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you for being my ultimate provider, and you know my present needs. I believe that you can provide me everything I need according to your good and perfect plan in my life, so please help me trust in you completely. Please help me now with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
