BEWARE OF SATAN'S DECEPTIONS

When Isaac was very old, and his eyes were dimmed, he decided that it was time for him to give prophetical blessings to his two sons. Prophetical blessings are from God that tell them their future. In the case of Isaac, it was going to reveal which son would God's promise to Abraham would flow through. God promised Abraham that his descendants would become a great nation. Since Isaac had two sons, only one of them would be chosen to be a part of that great nation. And so Isaac called Esau to hunt an animal and prepare his favorite dish so that he could bless him. But Rebekah heard their conversation that she came with a plan to steal Esau's blessings for Jacob. Rebekah wanted Esau's blessing to be given to Jacob because it was for a birthright. There's a possibility that Isaac did not know that Esau sold his birthright to Jacob with a bowl of soup.

Rebekah came up with a scheme to deceive Isaac to make Jacob smell and feel like Esau. Since Isaac could not see very well, he was deceived and gave the birthright blessing to Jacob. Once the prophetic blessings were given, there was no turning back. Soon after, Esau returned with an animal but found out that his prophetic blessings were stolen. Esau was determined to kill Jacob as soon as his father died, so Rebekah told Jacob to flee and live with his uncle in Haran until Esau's anger subsided. Jacob listened and left for Haran, and this was the last time Rebekah would see Jacob. Isaac could have never been deceived if he knew the truth, but he was deceived since he didn't know it.

Deception is one of Satan's weapons against us. He puts lies in our minds to manipulate us. He puts lies in our minds like "God doesn't love us," "God doesn't care about us," "God will never provide for our needs," "it's okay to live in sin since God is gracious and forgiving," "we will never be good enough," "God will never forgive our sins," "God doesn't listen to our prayers," or we are not secure in God." There are more lies that Satan puts in our minds, but the truth is that God loves us, He cares about us, He provides for our needs, He doesn't want us to live in sin because sin destroys our lives, we will be enough because God will do it for us, there is no sin that God cannot forgive, God always listens to our prayers, and we are always secure in Him because we are His children. Our weapon against Satan's deception is the truth of the Word of God. This is why we need to know the Word of God so that Satan cannot deceive us.

Ask yourself these questions: What is one of Satan's weapons against me? What is my weapon against Satan's deception? Why is it important to know the Word of God?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you for your Word. Please protect my mind from Satan's lies. Please continue to give me the desire to spend time with you in your Word and prayer so that I will continue to grow in knowing your truth and live for you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
