ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

When Jesus, Peter, James, and John returned to the nine disciples, a large crowd was around them, and some religious leaders argued with them about not being able to cast out the demon from a boy. The demon often threw the boy into the water and fire to destroy him. The father took his demon-possessed son to the nine disciples, but they could not cast the demon out. Jesus was amazed by the unbelief of the people. He said to them, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me?" (Mark 9:19). They brought the boy to Jesus, and according to the father, his son has been in that condition from childhood. Jesus said to the father, "If you can! All things are possible to him who believes." The boy's father immediately cried out and said, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!" Jesus rebuked the demon out of the boy, and the demon threw the boy into a terrible convulsion before coming out. Some of the crowd thought the boy was dead, but Jesus took the boy's hand and raised him up. When Jesus and his disciples went into the house, the disciples began to ask Jesus privately why they could not cast the demon out of the boy. Jesus told them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer." (Mark 9:14-29).

This is an example of the importance of prayer. The disciples relied on the power of the spiritual gift that Jesus gave them to cast out demons, but they did not realize that they still needed to rely on God's power through prayer. Our prayer demonstrates our faith and reliance on God. One of the reasons we pray is to rely on God's power completely, and God works in a very special way when we exercise our faith through prayer. The boy's father acknowledged that he was struggling with his faith but cried out to Jesus to help him with his unbelief. Similarly, we need to do the same thing. We need to cry out to God to help us overcome our doubts if we are doubting. There are times when fear and doubt affect our minds due to certain situations. But in those times, we need to pray and ask God to overcome our fear and doubt so we may continue to trust Him.

Let us continue to pray and ask God to help us in our situations and never stop believing in Him. When we are in doubt, we must ask God to help us to overcome our doubt or unbelief. Let us remember that God works through our prayers—prayers that are not rote prayers but prayers that are coming from our hearts, for God listens to our hearts.

Ask yourself these questions: Why could the nine disciples not cast the demon out of the boy? Why does prayer is so important? What should I do when I am in doubt?

Write down all the worries you are facing today and lift them up to God.
