What is Christianity? Millions of people are professing Christians today, and many of them are through association, like being associated with their families. For example, a person can be a Christian because he/she is born into a Christian family. But what does the Bible say about the meaning of Christianity? The word "Christianity" is derived from Christ, which is one of our Lord Jesus's titles. The term "Christ" means anointed or chosen one. Jesus is our Heavenly Father's anointed or chosen Savior to save us from our sin. Anyone who professes as a Christian must believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Christianity can summarize its meaning to "the follower of Jesus Christ or people who believe and live for Jesus Christ."
As we examine our society today, many profess as Christians, but they do not know Jesus and His Word, the Bible. They know more about the rituals and practices of their church than the person of Jesus. As a result, many are professing to be Christians, but in the eyes of God, they are not because they do not know Jesus. Jesus said, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’" (Matthew 7:21-23). Jesus continues to say this, "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." (John 6:40).
As believers, we need to be thankful that God has opened our eyes and hearts to know our Lord Jesus. Christianity is about having a relationship with our Lord Jesus. It is not based on rituals and practices, but it is based on the person of our Lord Jesus. The Bible is our guide to know Jesus and gives us direction on how we live for Him. Let us continue to know our Lord Jesus Christ through His Word, the Bible, for the more we know our Lord Jesus, the more our faith in God is strengthened.
