PERFECT HOME

Since Adam sinned, we have lost our perfect home. As a result, we have been seeking a better place and opportunity for a better life. However, a better life seems very elusive because we are never satisfied. The Garden of Eden is a picture of Heaven. When Adam and Eve were still living in the Garden of Eden, they were both in their perfect home. They didn't lack anything. However, they got ejected from the Garden of Eden when they rebelled against God. Although we are now living in this imperfect world, we are still longing for a perfect home. And so we tried to find a perfect home through the things of this world, but nothing can fill the void in our hearts. Money, wealth, cars, and other material possessions can never satisfy the longing of our souls. Our Lord Jesus came to save us from our sins and to bring us back to our perfect home. Jesus said, "But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life (John 4:14)." Jesus is saying to us that He is the way to a perfect home.

The living water He is talking about is His presence in us, which gives us the satisfaction of life in this imperfect world. Our Lord Jesus is the only one who can satisfy our longing to be in the perfect home. When we disregard God in an attempt to satisfy our longing, we will never be truly satisfied, but we will continue searching for things that can never truly satisfy us. We will keep on searching until we wear ourselves out. Our home is in the presence of our God. It is more than a place. It is in our hearts because God dwells in our hearts. It is not the external things that satisfy us, but who is in our hearts. Someday, we will see the culmination of our perfect home when we get to Heaven. Jesus mentioned our Heavenly Father's house, which has many mansions, and they are all prepared for us to dwell in forever (John 14:1-3).

Be encouraged that this world is not our home. Our home is always in the presence of God, which He brings into our hearts. Someday we will see the place of our perfect home, but we can now experience our perfect home in our Lord Jesus because He is our living water that satisfies the longing of our hearts.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Can I find my satisfaction in the things of this world? Where can I find my perfect home? How can I get to my perfect home?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for helping me to understand this morning that my perfect home is in your presence. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being my Living Water. You are the only one who can satisfy the longing of my heart. Please help me not to look elsewhere. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
