Psalm 92:1-3 says, "It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp." Music was a significant part of worshiping God in the Old Testament. All the Psalms in the Bible are music that people played with musical instruments to express their hearts before the Lord. Psalm 92 is about using music to praise the Lord and proclaim God's love in the morning and His faithfulness at night. Christian music helps us to fix our eyes on the Lord. In times of overwhelming concerns, when our peace and joy seem to be stolen, the soothing melodies of praise and worship songs can activate our trust in the Lord, bringing a sense of peace and joy. When we start to sing along with Christian music that expresses the greatness of God over our problems, it restores our confidence in God. It reminds us that God is in control of our problems.
When Paul and Silas were put in prison because of the gospel, they prayed and sang hymns of praise to God while they were chained in prison. At midnight, God caused a great earthquake to lose their chains. Paul and Silas could have escaped, but they chose to stay because God had a better plan for them (Acts 16:25-34). When we are overwhelmed by our circumstances, I want to encourage us to slow down and listen to praise and worship and let God minister to us through the songs. The best way to start our day if we want to have a godly start is to listen to Christian music in the morning. By doing it, it can prepare our hearts to pray and read God's Word, helping us to focus and be spiritually prepared. At night, let us fill our minds again with Christian music before we go to bed to think of God's faithfulness. God gave us music for our benefit. As a result, if God gave us the talent and skills to play musical instruments, let us use our skills and talents to sing praises to Him because all music belongs to Him.
Let our hearts be filled with praise and worship songs to the Lord our God. Let God use Christian music to minister to us in the morning and the evening. The more our minds are filled with praise and worship, the more we have peace of mind and heart.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important to fill my heart and mind with praise and worship to the Lord? How has God ministered to me in listening to praise and worship music in the past? What happens when I start my day in listening to Christian music?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me today the importance of singing praise and worship songs to you. Please help me to start my day in praising and worshiping you with Christian music, especially when I am overwhelmed with the concerns of this world so that my heart will be filled with your peace and joy. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
