PRIORITIZING GOD OVER MY DESIRES

Prioritizing our own desires over God's will can ultimately pull us away from a closer relationship with Him. The distance we create between ourselves and God leads to sin and greater hardships in our lives. When we drift away from God, we often rely on our feelings and understanding, which can be misled by Satan. However, when significant troubles begin to overwhelm us—such as health issues, financial struggles, or relationship conflicts—we often find ourselves regretting our decisions and turning back to God for restoration. But some are unwilling to accept full responsibility for their decisions and harbor bitterness, directing their frustration towards God, questioning His presence and support during their times of hardship. God wants us to prioritize our relationship with Him in everything that we do, so that we can stay close to Him and overcome any obstacles that we face in life.
Galatians 6:7-9 says, "Don't be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up." When tempted to prioritize our desires over God's will, we must remind ourselves of the dangers involved. Let us resist the urge to please ourselves more than God. Just recently, a pastor of a megachurch in Frisco, TX, resigned due to moral failure. He has been serving the Lord almost all his life, and God used him to start this megachurch, but now he has been disqualified for ministry. His sin is affecting so many people, including his family and friends.
Prioritizing our desires over God's will is dangerous. It can lead us to sin and many troubles. Let us continue to prioritize God, and we will have peace and an abundant life in Him.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Do I prioritize God more than my desires? What is the danger of prioritizing my desires over God's will? What must I do if I am currently prioritizing my desires over God?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, would you please help me to prioritize you over my own desires? Thank you for reminding me this morning of the danger of prioritizing my desires over you. If I am prioritizing my desires over you today, please forgive me and give me the courage to repent and change my priorities. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
