NOT HIDING SIN IN OUR HEARTS

David gave us an example of what to do when we fall into sin. The worst thing that we can do is to stay in our sin and not be willing to repent. Sin will consume our lives and destroy us if we stay in sin. We need always to remember that there is nothing good can come out of sin. It will always lead us to despair and destruction. Sin can give us excitement for a moment, but it will ultimately lead us to guilt and shame if the Spirit of God is in us. People ask, "How do you know when a person is saved or belongs to God?" The answer to this question is simple: how do they feel after they sin? Do they feel guilty and ashamed? If they do not feel guilty and ashamed, then they do not have the Spirit of God convicting them. True believers have the Holy Spirit living in them, and the Holy Spirit is always there to convict us of our sins so that we can turn away from sin. The Holy Spirit convicts us to confess our sins to God, turn away from sins, and be forgiven.

David wrote when he fell into sin, "When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night, your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then, I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord. And you forgave the guilt of my sin (Psalm 32:3-5)." The only way to get rid of guilt and shame is to return to God by acknowledging and confessing our sins to Him and turning away from our sins. Jesus died for our sins so that we can be forgiven and be saved from our sins. God gave us the Bible so that we can learn how to walk in the ways of God because His way protects us from walking in sin.

Let us not keep sin in our hearts. Let us repent from our sins and return to God, for there is nothing good that can come out of sin. Sin only destroys what is good in us. Hidden sins will eventually come out into the open, for God sees everything. We can hide our sins from others, but we cannot hide our sins from God, for He sees the motive in our hearts.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). Do I have a sin that I am reluctant to give up? Do I have remorse when I sin? If I do have remorse, am I willing to restore my relationship with God? How can I properly deal with my sin?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, I acknowledge all my sins to you. Please forgive me for the sins that I have committed. Please do not let me hide sin in my heart. Please soften my heart to repent from my sin so that I can restore my relationship with you. Protect my heart from hiding sin in my heart so that I may live in your peace and joy. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
