If you have been following the Olympics and have seen the opening ceremony, you saw how the event allowed mocking or making fun of our Lord Jesus through the Last Supper. The drag queens mimicked the Last Supper with contempt, and the US and world leaders denounced the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, according to Fox News. The drag queens replaced our Lord Jesus with the Greek god of festivities and wine named Dionysus. When we watched the ceremony, it seemed harmless, but it affected people's minds. It showed that it is okay to mock our Lord Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 says, "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!"
God already knew that all the mockery and insults of Him would happen, and since we are in the last days, we are seeing the fulfillment of what God has told us. We do not need to defend our God because He can absolutely defend Himself, but how should we respond to this mockery? We need to keep on praying for the salvation of those who are lost and hate God. The reason God still allowed those who hate him to live is because God is showing mercy on them. Despite the mockery, God still loves them and waits for them to repent. The Bible says that once God takes away the life of those who chose not to believe in our Lord Jesus, they will perish forever in the eternal judgment of the wrath of God. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."
Let us continue to walk in love and share our faith and testimonies with others who do not know Jesus. If people mock or make fun of our faith in Jesus, let us remember that they are mocking God. God will deal with them accordingly, but it is our responsibility to pray for them, show the love of Christ, and stand for what is right before God.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Does God know that people will mock Him? How should I respond when people mock God? Why does God not take away the life of those who hate and mock Him?
Take a moment to write down all the worries you face today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, regardless of what the people of this world think of you, you are still God. I thank you for your mercy for those who hate and mock you. You still waiting for them to repent because you do not want them to be condemned forever. Please teach and help me to respond to insult and mockery of my faith in my Lord Jesus. Please help me to stand firm in my faith and walk in your love and grace. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
