GOD IS OUR HOME

Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses. In it, Moses acknowledges that God is in control of our time on this earth. Psalm 90:1-4 says, "Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, 'Return to dust, you mortals!' For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours. You sweep people away like dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs up in the morning." This passage reminds us that God is the one who created the world and everything in it, including us. He created us out of dust, and He has the power to make us return to dust. Since Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, death has been a part of people's existence. Our time on this earth is a fleeting moment for God in comparison to His eternal existence. God has our lifetime in His hands, and He knows our final breath on this earth. Although death brings an end to our existence in this world, it is not the end of us because God will usher us into our final home in Him.

When it is time for us to leave this world, nothing can stop it. However, there is nothing to fear because for those of us who believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, it will be the beginning of something we have been hoping for: our eternal life in the very presence of God. In this world, we will always have suffering. There is no escaping it because suffering is a result of sin. Moses continued his prayer by saying, "Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away (Psalm 90:10)." The lesson that we can learn from today's devotion is to honor God with our lives. We are all in borrowed time, and we need to live for God. Because a time will come when we will answer to our God on how we live our lives on this earth.

We are all just passing through this earth. Our final home is not on this earth, but our final home is in Heaven. So, when we go through difficult problems right now, let us be encouraged that our sufferings are only temporary. The best of our existence is yet to come.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who has control of my time of existence on this earth? Where is my final home? How should I live my life on this earth, knowing that I am just passing through this earth?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, my life is always in your hands, and I should not worry. You are always there to support and help me in whatever situation that I face. Thank you for the eternal hope that I have in you. Please help me to live for you as you guide me through this life and eventually lead me home to be with you for eternity. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
