GOD IS MY EVERYTHING

Psalm 127 is another song of ascent that the Jews sang as they approached the temple in Jerusalem. King Solomon wrote this Psalm under the guidance of the Spirit of God. As one of the most successful kings of Israel, Solomon experienced being the most powerful and respectable king who ever existed in his time, for God gave him wisdom, wealth, and power (2 Chronicles 1:11-12). Solomon understood that everything that He had came from God, and he expressed His complete reliance on God in this Psalm. He said, "Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones (Psalm 127:1-2). Solomon recognized that building a house, safeguarding a city, or working long hours is useless if people depend on themselves rather than on God. Solomon continued to say in the rest of Psalm that children were gifts from God (Psalm 127:3-5).
God is the source of blessings in our lives. He gives us air to breathe every day. He allows our lungs to pump air so that we live. He knows what we need, and He gives to us what He thinks best for us. The problem is that we are not satisfied with relying on Him for everything we need and want, and we are not willing to wait for Him to give us what is best for us. Instead, we rely on the things that He has blessed us with. For example, we depend more on the jobs He has given us to meet our needs. We try to build our future according to our understanding, instead of asking God to guide us to the future He wants for us. The truth of the matter is that God is our ultimate provider. When we realize that God has the best future for us, we will trust Him in everything that we do. We will trust Him and be satisfied with what He provides for us. When we keep on seeking things apart from God, we will start to spin our wheels and not move anywhere. We may achieve our desires through our strength and understanding, but it will be exhausting and filled with anxiety as we strive to maintain everything with our capabilities and wisdom.
If we want to have the peace of God in our lives, we must trust Him in everything that we do, and be satisfied with what He has provided for us. Let us completely trust in Him, and not in the blessings that He has provided for us, such as our jobs, possessions, strength, health, and wisdom.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who can give me contentment in life? How can I have contentment in life? Why is it useless to rely on my job, strength, possessions, health, and wisdom?
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, you are the giver of blessings, and you know everything that I need and want. Please help me to completely rely on you and be completely satisfied with what you provide. Protect my heart from relying on the things that you provide for me, such as my job, strength, and understanding. You are the only one who can give me satisfaction in my heart. Thank you for being my everything. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
