THOSE WHO TRUST IN THE LORD ENDURE FOREVER

Psalm 125:1-2 says, "Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore." Mount Zion is where the Temple of God was located. It was a rocky hill, which meant that Mount Zion sat on a solid foundation of rocks that represents strength, security, and durability. Mount Zion has stood securely for ages. As the Jews sang Psalm 125 while they hiked up to Jerusalem to worship God in the Temple, they reminded themselves that those who trust in the Lord were like Mount Zion. They will never be defeated or destroyed because they trust in the Lord. The word "trust" in the above verses means to find security, confidence, and complete reliance on God. Just as God made Mount Zion be surrounded by mountains to protect it, God surrounded His people with His presence to protect them.

Trusting God is a choice that we must make every day. The reason is that we can easily trust in our understanding and strength, especially when we are very familiar with our situations. However, when we trust in ourselves, that's when we get into all kinds of trouble. Our self-confidence and self-reliance will eventually lead us to a false sense of hope because of our limited understanding and strength. God wants us to trust in Him completely in every area of our lives, not just in the time of our troubles, but during the time when we enjoy life and peace. Seasons change in our lives, and we encounter various situations that can sweep us off our feet, but when we always trust in the Lord, no matter the situations we face, we will stand because we trust in God. We become like Mount Zion—immovable and firm. When we find protection and security in God, we are allowing God, who created the universe and everything in it, to protect us. But when we do not trust in God, we are not relying on God for our safety and provision, but on ourselves or other things. So when bad things happen in our lives, we are caught up in confusion, which can lead us to blame God.

There is always peace when we completely trust in God, even when we do not know what will happen next. God will take care of us because we are completely relying on Him for direction, strength, and wisdom.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important for me to trust in God in every area of my life? What happens when I trust in God completely? Do I trust God completely in my current situation?

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, I trust in you completely. You are my strong foundation. I can stand through all my difficult problems and can face uncertainties because you are my God who protects, strengthens, and gives me direction. Protect me from being self-confident and self-reliant. Please continue to remind me that I cannot do anything apart from you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
