AN ETHIOPIAN BELIEVED IN JESUS

An Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the queen of Ethiopia, was on his chariot going back to Ethiopia from worshipping God in the temple in Jerusalem. He was reading a passage from the book of Isaiah, saying, "He was led as a sheep to slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth. In humiliation His judgment was taken away; Who will relate His generation? For His life is removed from the earth." While he was figuring out who the passage was talking about, an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip to go and meet the Ethiopian eunuch on a desert road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza. Arriving there, Philip approached the chariot and asked the Ethiopian eunuch what he was reading. The Ethiopian eunuch invited him to join his chariot, and Philip explained that the passage was about Jesus. When Jesus was arrested and crucified by the religious leaders, he was like a lamb led to be slaughtered. However, Jesus' death paid the penalty for our sins so that those who believed in Him would be forgiven. The Ethiopian Eunuch believed in Jesus and was water baptized immediately. Right after Philip baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away to Azotus, and he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea. The Ethiopian Eunuch saw him no more. (Acts 8:25-40).

Despite the persecutions that Christians were going through, God led Philip to continue to preach the gospel and lead people to the Lord. God knew that the Ethiopian Eunuch was hungry to know God through the Word of God, that He led Philip to help him understand the passage in the book of Isaiah. We need to remember that when we seek God, we will find Him; when we want to know Him, we will know Him because God wants us to know and believe in Him.

May the Lord give us a hunger to know Him through His Word. God has given us His Word so that we can know Him, which is why it is very important for us to read and study the Word of God. It is not enough for us to read the Word of God in the church once a week. If we truly want to know our God, we need to read His Word daily. One of the ways to read His Word daily is to read our devotion or our Bible app on our phones.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you) Why is it important for me to know God? What are the things that I can do to know God? Am I willing to take time in my busy schedule to read His Word and pray?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, You said that the Word of God, which is my Bible, is alive and active that can guide me through this life. Would you please give me the hunger and thirst to know you through your Word? Please give me a strong desire to make time in my busy schedule to read my Bible and pray daily. Please help me not to be lazy in reading my devotion every day so I can continue to grow and mature in my relationship with you. In Your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
