Psalm 107:1-8 says, "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things." The word redeemed in the above verse means rescued. God rescued those whom He loved by paying any amount to rescue them. In other words, God is willing to do anything to rescue those who belong to Him. The writer of Psalm 107 was encouraging the readers to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and faithful love.

We are all redeemed or rescued by God from our lostness. We were wandering around and had no direction in life. We were lost in our sins and separated from God. Yet, our Lord Jesus revealed Himself to us and opened our hearts to believe in Him. Once we believed in Him, He forgave us of our sins and rescued us from darkness and brought us to His light. He gave us a new life so that we are no longer under the control of sins. He sent us the Holy Spirit to live in us to comfort, guide, and teach us the Word of God so that we can know Him and walk in His ways. Everything that we have done in the past has been forgiven, and God will never use our past mistakes to judge us. He chose not to remember them anymore. Our God the Father loves us so much that He secures our salvation through our Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit. No matter what happens in the coming new year, God has us in His loving arms, whether we fail or succeed. Our security is in Him.

Let us give thanks to our God for His goodness and loving kindness. He paid for our sins with His own life so that we can be forgiven of our sins. Our God is willing to do anything to rescue us, so let us not worry about tomorrow or the coming new year. God will always be with us, and He will always be our redeemer.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How did God redeem or rescue me? Should I worry about tomorrow or next year? Why?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for redeeming me. Thank you for being so willing to rescue me, no matter what it may cost you. You sent Your only Son, Jesus Christ, to save me from my sins and give me a new life. I praise you for your goodness and your lovingkindness that you have shown me. Please help me not to worry about tomorrow or next year, for you are my faithful redeemer. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
