Psalm 116:10-14 says, "I believed in you, so I said, 'I am deeply troubled, Lord.' In my anxiety, I cried out to you, 'These people are all liars!' What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord's name for saving me. I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people." The writer of this Psalm acknowledged his belief in God in the midst of his suffering. As he was anxious about his troubles, he prayed to God for deliverance, for people are incapable of helping him. The people he referred to as liars promised to help him but didn't follow through. As a result, God is the only one He could trust and rely on. Since God had been faithful to help him, he offered a cup of salvation and praise to the LORD. The cup of salvation refers to his redeemed life. In other words, he offers his life and praise to God as a response to God's goodness in his life. He also vowed to fulfill his promises to God.

We've all faced moments when people did not follow through on their commitments, leaving us disappointed. Some may have tried to help us, but our problems are way over their heads. We have also been in situations where we promised to help, but realized that we couldn't due to our limitations. The lesson from today's devotion is that while others may be limited in their ability to help us with our problems, God is limitless. Others can disappoint us, or we can disappoint others, but God never disappoints anyone. When God helps us, He helps us according to His purpose and plan in our lives. We must only put our faith in God because others may fail us, or we may fail others. When we face a situation that is too difficult for us to handle, we must believe in God that He can save or deliver us. Always remember that people, no matter how much they care about us, are still limited in helping us.

Our God is limitless in helping us; we can trust Him to deliver us from our biggest problems. People may fail us, but God never fails us. When people promise to help us, let us always remember that their words can fail us because of their limitations and weaknesses, just like us. So, let us put our trust and hope in our God.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who should I put my trust in so that I will never be disappointed? Why is it that others fail to help when they said that they would help? What lesson did I learn from today's devotion?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, you are not limited to helping me because you are a sovereign God. There is nothing impossible to you. Please help me to put my ultimate trust in you. Others may try to help me, but they may fail to follow through on their promises because of their limitations and weaknesses. I honor and worship you, for you are my God whom I can always rely on. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
