WARNING AGAINST SPIRITUAL COMPLACENCY

One of the struggles that we have as Christians is that we forget who we are in our Lord Jesus Christ. We forget that we are children of God through faith in our Lord Jesus and citizens of Heaven. As a result, we easily fall into spiritual complacency. We settle into a dull spiritual life. We go to church, but our hearts are not really there. We become easily susceptible to temptations and make decisions that don't align with our relationship with God. We seek acceptance and praise from this world, instead of acceptance and praise from our Heavenly Father. We try to find worth in jobs, relationships, status, or physical appearance rather than our identity as children of our Heavenly Father. I am not trying to put guilt in us this morning, but I believe God is warning us this morning not to forget who we are in our Lord Jesus Christ. Satan, our spiritual enemy, constantly places thoughts in our minds to distract us from God. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour."
When we find ourselves drifting spiritually, we must pause and pray to God for spiritual revival in our souls. We need to pray for God to draw our hearts to Him again and ask for forgiveness for all the sins we have committed. If listening to Christian praise and worship songs helps us to focus on God, we need to listen to them. Let us try to listen to Christian radio or online sermons to let God remind us of who we are in our Lord Jesus Christ. We can read God's Word using our phone apps or from our Bible. Let us stop listening to or watching anything that can distract us spiritually. In order for us to combat spiritual complacency, we need to spend time with God in prayer and His Word, and this is the reason I send daily devotion so that we can be reminded of who we are in our Lord Jesus Christ. Do not let our hearts drift away from God because the moment we drift away, we will fall into spiritual complacency. We will begin to worry, grumble, complain, and do things that are not aligned with our relationship with God.
A simple prayer to express our gratitude and complete reliance on our God every morning protects us from spiritual complacency. Reading the Bible or the daily devotion reminds us of who we are in Christ Jesus our Lord. God is always with us, but we must choose to engage with Him every day.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the danger of forgetting who we are in our Lord Jesus Christ? What is the danger of spiritual complacency? What are the things that I need to do daily to protect my heart from spiritual complacency?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, I humbly come before you to thank you for reminding me about spiritual complacency this morning. Please forgive me if I allowed myself to drift away from you. Please draw my heart back to you. Please revive my soul and let me experience your joy, peace, and assurance again. Please guard my mind and heart from Satan's schemes to lead me away from you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
