WALKING IN HUMILITY BEFORE GOD AND OTHERS

Philippians 2:9-11 says, "Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." As our Lord Jesus humbled Himself to save us from our sins by giving up His divine privileges to become a human being and willingly suffered and died a criminal death on a cross, our Heavenly Father elevated Him to the place of honor. He gave our Lord Jesus the name above all other names, that at His name, every knee should bow in heaven and on the earth and under the earth. Every tongue declares who Jesus really is; He is the LORD to the glory of our Heavenly Father. Everyone who rejects our Lord Jesus will someday acknowledge and declare that He is the LORD, and everyone, including all the believers in heaven, saved and unsaved people living on the earth, angels, Satan, demons, and those who are unsaved in hell, will bow down before Him as a sign of surrender and humbleness. No one will escape the Lordship of Jesus.Â
Â
Jesus humbled Himself before our Heavenly Father to save us from our sins, and in the end, our Heavenly Father elevated or exalted our Lord Jesus to the place of highest honor, in which every knee will bow and tongue confess that He is the Lord. In the same manner, God wants us to humble ourselves to God and to others, so that we can be a blessing to others, just as Jesus blessed us with His life. When we humble ourselves is not about what we can get or what benefits us, but what we can bless God and others. God then elevates or exalts us by blessing us with spiritual blessings. Jesus said, "But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted (Matthew 23:12)." We must avoid pride, arrogance, and self-centeredness, for they have no room in God's church and kingdom.Â
Â
We must confess our pride, arrogance, and self-centeredness before God, and let us walk in humility before God and others by becoming a blessing to others. May our Lord Jesus be our inspiration for walking in humility before God and others.Â
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.)Â Why is it important for me to walk in humility before God and others? What does it mean to walk in humility before God and others? What are the practical actions that I can take to show my humility before God and others at my church, school, work, and home?
Â
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you, Jesus, for giving me an example of what it means to humble myself before God and others. Please continue to teach me in this area, and help me not to only think of myself or what benefits me, but to think of ways to bless you and others by my actions. Please help me to reject pride, arrogance, and self-centeredness in me. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.Â
