THE WORD OF GOD GUIDES MY FEET

Psalm 119:105 says, "Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." As we reflect on the verse above, we recognize that the Word of God plays a crucial role in our lives, guiding us in choosing the right path. We need to have the correct information in order to decide on what we are going to do next, especially when our future is on the line. Many people seek guidance from palm readers, fortune-tellers, and others who try to predict future events for their life choices. Others rely on their own instincts and understanding to make decisions. However, as followers of the true living God, we use His Word to tell us what we need to do. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." We must understand that God is the ultimate source of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. He proved that to us when He created the entire universe and everything in it, including us. God knows everything in the past, the present, and the future. Nothing escapes His wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
The Bible reveals the love, wisdom, and character of God, so when God guides and leads us, He never contradicts His Word, but He uses it to give us wisdom so that we can have the right information to make the right decision. If we are single and looking for a person to marry, the Bible gives us advice on what type of person we need to marry. The Bible also gives us instructions on how we treat our spouses and children. The Bible gives us directions on how we should live our lives in our schools, jobs, and homes. In relationships, the Bible teaches us to forgive, to be kind, to love, and to be patient, along with other godly qualities. God can speak to our hearts about what we need to do in our specific situations if we are willing to spend time with Him in prayer and reading His Word. God is always available to guide us if we are willing to listen and accept what He has to say to us.
One of the reasons God gave us His Word, the Bible, is so that He can guide us to walk in the right direction and to light our path when the path that we are taking is not clear. Let us allow the Bible to guide us and not to trust in our own understanding and the wisdom of this world.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What do I need in order to make the right decision? Why is it that the Word of God is the right source to make the right decision? Do I trust myself or God in making decisions that affect my life?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for giving me your Word to guide and light my path so that I can make the right decisions that affect my current situation and my future. Please help me to listen to your Word, even when my understanding of my situation is different than yours. Please help me to set aside my own understanding and trust in your Word, for you know what is best for me. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
