THE SECURITY OF OUR SALVATION

One of the questions that is asked all the time regarding salvation is, "can I lose my salvation after I genuinely believe in Jesus as my Lord and Savior?" The answer to this question is we cannot lose our salvation after we genuinely believe in the Lord Jesus. The reason is that God saves us not because of our good works but because of our faith in the Lord Jesus. John 6:39-40 says, "And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. For it is my Father's will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day." Our salvation is the work of our Heavenly Father. It was his desire for us to be saved and make sure that we will never lose our salvation. Jesus promised that He would give us eternal life and He would raise us up on the last day.

Our good works are a result of our genuine faith in our Lord Jesus. When we believe in the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we start to change. The Spirit of God begins to change our hearts towards spiritual maturity. God understands that we will still sin and make mistakes, but we are changing because the Spirit of God will keep convicting us every time we sin. We will start being uncomfortable with our sins. Some of us will see the change right away, but there are some of us the change is slow. Regardless of what is going on in our lives, we are changing because God promises us that He will change us day by day. If we are frustrated dealing with our sins, let us trust in the power of God that is at work within us. We may not feel or know it, but God is constantly at work within our hearts.

God will never give up on us because He loves us, and He already provided us the answer to our sins. Jesus' blood that was shed on the cross could wash away any sins that we committed. We are free to live in the Lord Jesus. Let us not worry about our salvation. We are saved for eternity because God is always at work in our lives. He will never leave us nor forsake us, even when we struggle with our sins because God knows that we are not perfect.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). Have I believed genuinely that Jesus is my Lord and Savior? If I have, do I believe that my salvation is secure? If I die today, do I have the assurance that I will go to Heaven? Why?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, my salvation is the work of your hand. It is only through believing in Jesus as my Lord and Savior that I am saved. Thank you that my salvation is secured. Although I am still sinning, you are changing me day by day. And someday, I will see your complete work in me. I will be free from sins and be with you forever. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
