THE MOTIVE OF WORSHIPING GOD

Job's life story is one of the testimonies in the Bible that helps us understand that God is in control of our lives. Satan told God that Job respected and worshiped Him because of the many blessings and protection He gave to Job and his family. Satan believed that Job only worshiped God for selfish reasons. It suggested that the only way for God to gain people's worship is through His promises of good family and wealth. Satan has a good point here. Today, many people profess their faith in God because of the blessings that they can get from God. Many false teachers of the Bible focus more on selfish reasons, such as being wealthy and healthy. They use God to get what they want and not to obey and live godly lives. For God to prove that Satan was wrong about Job, He allowed Satan to take away all his wealth and children. In one day, Job lost everything, including his children. Yet, Job never cursed God but worshiped Him. Job said, "I came naked from my mother's womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The LORD gave me what I had, and the LORD has taken it away. Praise the name of the LORD!" (Job 1:21).

The lesson we can learn from Job's testimony is that our reverence and worship of God do not depend on the blessings we receive from Him but on who He is and our relationship with Him. God indeed blesses us when we worship and obey Him, but His blessings are not the reasons we worship Him. God wants us to worship Him for who He is. When we believe in our Lord Jesus and surrender our lives to Him, our lives are no longer ours; our lives become His. As a result, we must surrender everything to God, including our desires, wants, and dreams. We must accept what He wants for our lives, for He is the one who gives, and He is the one who takes away. When we worship God not with our selfish reason, we will find joy, peace, and security in Him.

Let us continue to worship God for who He is and not focus on the blessings. The material things and our health will fade away, but our reverence and worship of our God will remain forever. In the end, what really matters is our relationship with Him.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Am I focusing more on what God can do for me, or am I focusing more on how I can worship God for who He is? What is the importance of worshiping God for who He is? What lesson that God want me to learn from today's devotion?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, I acknowledge that you are the one who gives and the one who takes away. You are the one who created me for your glory and honor. I worship you for who you are. Please help me not worship you for personal gain but as my God and Savior. Thank you for always taking care of all my needs and providing me with your wonderful blessings. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
