THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD'S WORD

Psalm 119:169-176 says, "O Lord, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised. Listen to my prayer; rescue me as you promised. Let praise flow from my lips, for you have taught me your decrees. Let my tongue sing about your word, for all your commands are right. Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments. O Lord, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight. Let me live so I can praise you, and may your regulations help me. I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands." When everything is said and done, in the end, the Word of God will still stand. There is nothing that can change the Word of God, whether we accept and believe it or not. It has remained for centuries, and it will remain forever. Its truth is based on the holiness and righteousness of God. The Psalmist had wandered away like a lost sheep and was in need of rescuing. He knew that God was the only one who could rescue and restore him. He knew that because of God's Word.

When we lose our way, let us remember what the Word of God says. When we are confused and do not know what we need to do, let us cry out to God for direction, and let us open our hearts and minds to the Word of God. Let us not pick and choose what we accept and believe in the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." It is sad what is going on in Canada right now. There is a politician trying to push a law that prohibits teaching the whole Word of God. He tries to ban any book of the Bible that teaches about homosexuality because it is considered hate speech. No matter what the politicians of Canada think of the Word of God, God will never change His Word. He is the one who sets what is true and what is not. True believers of our Lord Jesus cannot believe in God and not believe in His Word. God's Word is His Word, and it is a part of who God is. The Word of God is a standard that every believer must live by.

Let us abide by the Word of God, and this is the message of the entire Psalm 119. It is a Psalm that reminds us that the Word of God is very important in our relationship with God. All commandments, instructions, and promises of God are true and lead to life.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What did I learn in Psalm 119? Why is the Word of God important in my relationship with God? What will happen when I follow God's Word?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for your Word. Your Word is truly the lamp to my feet and the light to my path. Please help me to abide by your Word. Rescue me from a wrong path. Do not let anything in this world lead me to a wrong understanding of your Word. You know what I know and believe, and I surrender everything to you. I want to know your truth, for it leads to life. Thank you for Psalm 119. You taught me a lot about the importance of your Word in my relationship with you. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
