As the priests step into the Holy Place through the curtain, their eyes are drawn to the Golden Lampstand on their left. This Golden Lampstand provides light that illuminates the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, guiding their steps. The priests take care of the lampstand's light and ensure that it will never go out. They constantly resupply it with oil and check the wicks. The Golden Lampstand, also known as Menorah, is a symbol that God is light (1 John 1:5). He is the source of light in all His creation, both spiritually and physically. His Word provides spiritual light to us. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." Jesus is also the light of the world. He said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness because you will have the light that leads to life (John 8:12)." Darkness often symbolizes sin, chaos, and suffering. Just as the Golden Lampstand provided light in the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, Jesus provides light in our lives.
Before we became believers in our Lord Jesus, we were in the darkness of sin. Because of our sins, we were lost and under God's judgment. However, when Jesus came into this world, died on the cross, and was resurrected from the dead, He gave us hope of salvation. He shined His truth in our darkness and saved us. Ephesians 5:8 says, "For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!" As we are now in the light of our Lord Jesus, we need to stay living in the light by walking in His ways. God is now using us as His little lamps to shine His light into this world through the way we live. People around us at work, school, home, and wherever we may be must see the light of Christ in us. Matthew 5:16 says, "In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." Lastly, no matter what is going on in our lives today, God encourages us that He will always be our light, even when our light might be flickering because of our struggles.
God is our faithful light. His light in us will never be overcome with darkness. We may fail or falter, but His light in us will never be snuffed out because our God is the God of light. He will sustain and guide us through this life.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What symbolizes the Golden Lampstand? Who can guide and sustain me through this life? What lessons did I learn from today's devotion?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, You are the light of all your creation, both physically and spiritually. Thank you for shining your light in my darkness through my Lord Jesus. Please help me to continue to live in your light so that I may shine your light on the people around me. Thank you for guiding me through this life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
