Psalm 111:6-10 says, "He has shown his great power to his people by giving them the lands of other nations. All he does is just and good, and all his commandments are trustworthy. They are forever true, to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity. He has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever. What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has! Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom." When God chose the people of Israel to become His people, He promised them a land that they would inherit forever, and God fulfilled His promise. God then gave them His commandments (Law) through Moses so that they would know how to live as a godly nation. Despite their rebellion or not obeying His commandments, God had guaranteed His promise to them that they would be His people forever. God expected them to fear or revere Him, for it is the foundation of true wisdom. If they want to have the wisdom of God, they must revere Him by obeying His commandments.
Our reverence for God leads us to obey Him that helps us to grow in wisdom. Reverence means to have deep respect and honor before God that leads us to worship and obey Him. As we grow in the wisdom of God, we will know how we should live our lives wisely. No matter the challenges we face, turning to God's wisdom gives us the power to make the right decisions. Embracing His wisdom can illuminate our path and inspire us to act with purpose and integrity. We have been in situations where we do not know what to do or do not know which direction to take. If we have God's wisdom, we can know what we need to do and which way to take. So, how can we have God's wisdom? We can only have wisdom when we revere God with our lives. We must have deep respect and honor before God that leads us to worship and obey Him. God's wisdom starts with our relationship with God. If we have not been walking with God, it is time to turn back to Him and begin to worship and obey Him once again. God's wisdom can only be attained through our genuine relationship with Him. We can't have God's wisdom when we are living in sin. We must choose to turn back to Him and revere Him to have His wisdom.
We need God's wisdom if we want to be secure in life. There are many things that we cannot know or many things we cannot understand because of our limited understanding of things, but God's wisdom can direct our lives on the right path.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How can I have or grow in God's wisdom? Why is God's wisdom important for me to have? What does it mean to revere God?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, you are the source of true wisdom. Please help to revere you with my life so that I will grow in your wisdom. I need your wisdom to help me make the right decisions. There are many things that I do not know and many things that I do not understand, but your wisdom can guide me to the right path. Do not let sin cloud my mind and my heart, but help me to revere you that I may walk in your wisdom that brings security in my life. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
