SHARING AMONG BELIEVERS

As the number of believers grew, they were all in one heart and mind. The Bible says that no one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. They believed that their personal possessions were God's possession. They wanted to use them to help one another. For example, those who had land or houses sold their possessions and gave the money to the Apostles to distribute them to those in need in the church. As a result, there was no needy person among them. Barnabas, which means "son of encouragement," also sold the field he owned and gave the money to the Apostles to help others. (Acts 4:32-37).

When we understand as God's children that every possession that we have are God's possession, we can easily help others with our possessions. Psalms 24:1 says, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it." Everything that we have at this moment, including our lives, is owned by God. And He has the right to take it away from us. He gave us life and possessions to take care and use for His glory. Our money, time, health, clothes, cell phones, house, jobs, and retirements are owned by God, and someday we will give an account for everything He has given us.

So let us use our life and all our possessions for his glory. We need to be responsible for everything that He has given us. Let us not waste anything. For example, let us be willing to help others with what we have or make sure that we take care of our families. God bless us so that we can be a blessing to others. It is not meant for us to store up treasures in this world because when it is time for God to take us home to be with Him in Heaven, we will not be able to take our possessions with us. We have to leave them as an inheritance to others.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). Am I using the possessions that God has given me for His glory? Am I willing to help others and be generous? When was the last time I helped someone?

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me today that everything I have, including my very life, belongs to you. There is nothing in my possessions that you have not given to me. Please help me to be generous and willing to help those who are in need because there will be a day when I will be in need, and you will use someone to provide for my needs. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
