REQUIREMENTS IN WORSHIPING GOD

King David wrote Psalm 15 and answered the question of who may enter the sanctuary (dwelling place of God) and worshipped the LORD. David provided ten answers to the questions. Since God is holy, anyone who wants to enter His presence must be acceptable in His sight. The following is the description of those who can enter the presence of God and worship Him: live a blameless life, do what is right, speak honestly, do not slander, do not harm others, do not speak evil of their friends, despise wicked people but honor the faithful followers of the LORD, keep their promises even when it hurts, lend money to the needy without charging interest, and do not accept a bribe against the innocent. King David concluded this Psalm by saying that whoever does these things will never be shaken (Psalm 15:1-5).

It requires us to be righteous before God in order for us to worship God in His presence because He is a holy God. The question, then, is how can we be righteous? It seems that it depends on how we do good, but what if we do more bad things than good? What should we do then? The answer to these questions is in Romans 3:22, which says, "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction." We become righteous before God when we believe in our Lord Jesus. God makes us righteous not by our own good works but by faith in our Lord Jesus because He died for our sins. When we believe in our Lord Jesus and surrender our life to Him, the Holy Spirit who lives in us will change us into the person God wants us to be.

We begin to do the things David listed in this Psalm when we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and surrender our lives to Him. We can worship God in His presence at any time or place.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). What is the requirement for me to worship God in His presence? How can I be righteous before God? What should I do to do good that is acceptable to God?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for enabling me to worship you in your presence. I am righteous before you not because of what I have done, but by faith alone in my Lord Jesus. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to live in me so He can change me. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that I can live righteously. Please help me to walk in a manner that pleases you today. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
